Three helpless rabbits have been found dumped at a Morrisons supermarket in Barry.
RSPCA Cymru was alerted shortly after a member of the public reported finding the rabbits last Tuesday (10 March), at Waterfront Retail Park in the Vale of Glamorgan town.
Two of the rabbits were found inside a supermarket trolley, with a third in a crisp box placed in the trolley.
Nothing in the boxes gave any clues as to who owns the rabbits or where they came from, and none of the three were microchipped.
The rabbits were taken to a nearby Pets at Home store, who contacted the RSPCA – prompting the launch of an appeal for information.
Fortunately, the rabbits are not in particularly poor condition – though all had very overgrown nails which was preventing one from walking properly. One of the rabbits was also underweight.
RSPCA inspector Sophie Daniels said: “It beggars belief anyone would think it acceptable to dump three helpless rabbits in a supermarket trolley.
“A member of the public has reported finding them – and quickly took them to a nearby Pets at Home store. We’re grateful to the store for contacting us and agreeing to rehome the rabbits.
“RSPCA Cymru is eager to find out what happened to these poor rabbits, and where they came from. All are in okay health – though one is underweight; and all three had very overgrown nails.
“It is thought these rabbits were abandoned last Tuesday morning (10 March); and anyone with information is urged to contact our inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
