Rebecca Evans, Welsh Minister for Housing and Regeneration joined Family Housing and the local community to celebrate the first anniversary of its housing development in Scurlage, the first development of social housing to be built in Gower for over twenty years.

Also joining the celebrations were Andrea Lewis, Swansea Council Cabinet Member – Homes and Energy and Guto ap Gwynn and Gordon Howe of the Gower Society.

Family Housing Chief Executive, Karen Dusgate, commented:

“It’s been fantastic to celebrate both the anniversary of our Scurlage development and the award from the Gower Society, also to welcome our special guests along with so many people from the surrounding areas to our community day.

“In line with our commitment to benefiting local communities, each of the new homes have been prioritised for people who are already living and working in the area and we feel this has already had a really positive impact on the local community, which is demonstrated by the number of people who have come along today to join our celebrations.”

Robin Kirby, chairman of the Gower Society called the development a ‘modest but significant housing development, designed attractively and in accordance with the Local Authority’s Design Guide for Gower’ he commended Family Housing for taking the initiative to build the development in Gower. The Design Award from the Gower Society recognises buildings with good design and features that are sympathetic to the area of outstanding natural beauty in which they are built.

    Karen continued:

“It’s wonderful to have been able to celebrate with staff, tenants and other guests and to get the seal of approval from influential stakeholders from throughout Wales.

“We are extremely proud of the finished development in Scurlage and are sure it will have a long and prosperous future as a hub for the local community in Gower.”

Family Housing is a social landlord based in Swansea that houses a wide range of tenants in properties across South West Wales.
