Adventurer and writer Will Millard (Go Fish with Will Millard, My Year with the Tribe, Hidden Cardiff) with a second series of Hidden Wales that sees him explore the country’s quirky, secret and forgotten history.
The new series starts next Friday (September 4) on BBC One Wales at 7.30pm and over six episodes, Will gets unprecedented access to long-forgotten and off-limits locations, secret spots and decaying industrial sites that are on the verge of being lost forever. Through these discoveries, Will provides new insights into how the Welsh landscape, architecture and culture has evolved over the centuries.
Will Millard said: “Although I’ve explored some of the world’s inaccessible corners, I’m often surprised about the incredible wonders right here on my doorstep in Wales. In this series, I’ll be travelling the length and breadth of this country to discover some of these hidden secrets. Lost worlds beneath out feet, industries that once powered the nation and structures that will take your breath away. It’s going to be exhilarating and dangerous. I thought I knew this country, but I was wrong. This is Wales as you’ve never seen it before.”
The series sees him travel the length and breadth of the country from Anglesey to Castlemartin and from Swansea to the Brecon Beacons in a search to uncover Wales’ hidden history with each episode focusing on a different aspect including caves, copper, World War Two and engineering.
In the first episode of the new series, Will heads below the surface to unearth an array of caves to find tales of the past including ice age remains and stories of social rebellion.
Will continued: “I’m going to be exploring what lies beneath our feet. Wales is home to many spectacular caves, tunnels and caverns but some of the best can only been seen by daring to venture inside some of the valleys, cliffs and mountains of this diverse landscape.”
