Street Food Circus is bringing a new street food festival to the grounds of Caldicot Castle.

The Big Banquet will run across the late May bank holiday weekend (Saturday 27 May – Monday 29 May), bringing flavours from around the world served up by some of Wales’ top street food chefs, bartenders and mixologists.

As well as more than a dozen top street food traders, the Street Food Circus will be bringing high-wire acts, walkabout performers, marshmallow fire pits and evening fire shows, guest DJs and buskers with lots of space for people to sit, meet, play and eat.

Large, long banqueting tables will be laid out for people to dine in groups or communally, with food on offer from British Street Food Award Winner Fire & Flank (Argentinian steak & fries), Bao Selecta’s steamed buns, Nomad Kitchen serving pan-Asian fusion food, Southern Indian specialities from Keralan Karavan, Kindle restaurant’s Chicken Wing Chronicles, loaded fire-roasted potatoes from Pot Heads, Bare Bones serving wood-fired pizza, Smokin’ Griddle’s Welsh Beef burgers, original Venezuelan arepas from the Queen Pepiada or Captain Joy’s vegan burgers

A new food slam area – taco wars – sees top taco traders Sin Nombre and El Cabron go head to head and for after the savouries, the Dessert Island Disco zone offers Coaltown coffee, Pwdin’s puddings and ice cream, Chock Shop’s brownies and the Church of Churros’ buckets of churros to share.

Drinks on offer include Newport’s Tiny Rebel craft beer bar, the Applecart Cider Bar and the Street Food Circus mixologists’ Lola’s Cocktail bar.

Street Food Circus is a collective of creative event producers who run an annual programme of street food festivals across South Wales including Cardiff’s Roath Yard, Bridgend’s Forest Feastival and Carmarthen’s Street Food Cinema.

The Street Food Circus in the unique historic setting of Caldicot Castle is the first time it’s bringing its nomadic caravan of traders to Monmouthshire and the first chance for visitors to experience the new Big Banquet concept.

Street Food Circus founder and ‘ringmaster’ Matt ‘the Hat’ explained:

“We’re thrilled to be bringing the wonderful world of Street Food Circus to Caldicot and to give people the chance to experience a whole world of food all in one place, from some of the most exciting chefs in Wales.

“The Big Banquet is a brand new immersive street food event we’ve created for this unique historic site – a celebration of food and family over one delicious bank holiday weekend. And there’s much more than food on offer – from toasting marshmallows over open fires with the kids while tightrope walkers show off their skills, to sipping cocktails made with Welsh spirits after dark to chilled out sets from our guest DJs.

“It’s going to be a perfect bank holiday for the whole family – you can even bring the dog!”

Tickets are available for the Big Banquet at thebigbanquet.uk with two sessions (daytime and evening) available on Saturday and Sunday and one daytime session on Bank Holiday Monday. Tickets are £5 plus booking fee and kids’ tickets are free.
