A-level drama group learn from industry leader at special workshop

A-level Drama pupils from Rydal Penrhos School got the chance to learn from an industry leader as part of a special academic event.

The Year 12 group took part in a workshop held by leading director Simon Winterman on Friday, May 4, who represents the Sudden Impulse Theatre Company.

During the workshop, the pupils took part in a host of different activities designed to improve acting techniques and improve reflexes, before moving on to some vital tips of the trade to give them the best possible chance of succeeding.

They also got the chance to explore in more detail behind their Accidental Death of an Anarchist, which is the main novel behind their examination process and was directed by Mr Winterman earlier this year.

The opportunity arose after a trip organised by the school to attend the play had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, but after English and Drama teacher Fiona Earle got in touch with Mr Winterman, he offered to visit Rydal Penrhos and aide each pupil with their exam preparation.

The visit also coincided with the schools’ Creative and Performing Arts week, which featured a host of different activities to celebrate the work at Rydal Penrhos’ Art, Drama and Music departments.

Miss Earle, said:

“We are indebted to Simon for taking the time to visit us at Rydal Penrhos, and I know our Year 12 A-level group thoroughly enjoyed the experience and got a great deal out of it.

“They were very disappointed to miss out on the play itself but this may prove even more useful as look to carry on the school’s rich history of exam success next year.”
