A power shift of sorts is taking place in Welsh football, and has been on the cards for a while. The remarkable story being pieced together by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has captured the imagination of a global audience.
While Red Dragons from the Racecourse Ground are flying high, Bluebirds in Cardiff have seen collective wings clipped, while Swans in Swansea find themselves treading water. The ultimate goal for those in Wrexham would be to claim country-wide bragging rights in Wales. The famous co-owners have made no secret of the fact that they intend to reach the big time.
With that ambition taken into account, more intriguing recruitment is expected. Jamie Vardy is a name that has fallen off the lips of a few starry-eyed supporters who are daring to dream. He has been finding out the hard way in 2024-25 how difficult it is to shift the latest Premier League odds in favour of promoted clubs, no matter how extensive the coverage may be for football betting online these days.

Southampton, Leicester, and Ipswich were short prices in Premier League relegation odds before a ball was even kicked, and quickly drifted to 100/1 and beyond to preserve their top-flight status. With tumbles back into the second tier being taken, departures at St Mary’s, the King Power, and Portman Road are expected.
Vardy has secured a standing among the immortals at Leicester, as a title-winning hero, and would retain legend status if he were to bid farewell to the Foxes. The ex-England international, with the end of a stunning career now in sight, may feel like taking on a fresh start and a new challenge.
Given his track record, which includes over 140 Premier League goals, there would be no shortage of takers for his signature. Wrexham, with some marquee deals already completed under Reynolds and McElhenney, should like to think that their voice can be heard in any transfer discussions regarding Vardy.
They have, for now, been doing their best to distance themselves from speculation that lacks substance. Club director Humphrey Ker has said when quizzed on shock gossip: “There’s nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn’t be a great Wrexham player. It’s not a name I’ve had mentioned inside the building before but, you know, age and profile wouldn’t put us off.”
Wrexham have already landed one former England international striker in the form of Jay Rodriguez, so who is to say that they cannot sign another? Their meteoric rise and potential for future growth hold obvious appeal to players across the globe.

Vardy ticks plenty of boxes for Wrexham, on and off the field, whether he becomes available in the summer of 2025 or further down the line. His ability remains without question, while his character leans favourably towards life on big and small screens.
The mere fact that such an agreement is not being completely written off as far-fetched and fanciful serves to further highlight how far Wrexham have come in a short space of time. For them, no target is seemingly out of reach.
That includes gracing the Premier League at some stage, and a Vardy party would sit nicely alongside more promotion celebrations as an emerging force in North Wales seeks to eclipse the efforts of more established institutions in the South.
