On Monday 28 March, Ysgol Gynradd Aberaeron were victorious in the Cwis Dim Clem 2022 national final – beating schools from across Wales with a very high score of 98%.

Cwis Dim Clem is a Welsh language quiz competition coordinated in Ceredigion by Cered on behalf of the Mentrau Iaith network and it sees year 6 pupils answer a broad range of general knowledge questions on Wales. The aim of the competition is to support schools with their Language Charter work and to raise awareness of the work of the Mentrau Iaith.

Ysgol Gynradd Aberaeron reached the final by winning the Ceredigion county round and the South West regional round and it is the first time that they have gone so far in the competition. The two quizmasters in the final were the familiar faces of S4C presenters Mari Løvgreen and Owain Williams. Mari said:  “It was so lovely to be able to host the quiz this year and to be able to see the children in their teams on the screen. The children’s energy could almost be felt on the screen and their enthusiasm was very clear. Some of the questions I struggled to answer myself but the children seemed to have had a very good time with them!”

As a result of Covid-19 the competition was held virtually once again this year. By using digital platforms such as Teams, Zoom and Kahoot it was possible to continue with the competition safely and smoothly whilst avoiding any costs or inconvenience for the schools in regards to travelling etc.

Dywedodd Steffan Rees, Cered Team Leader said: “I am so happy to see Ysgol Gynradd Aberaeron doing so well in the competition this year – scoring so well in each round and showing that it is possible to have fun in Cymraeg”.
