Six new affordable homes near Swansea have been completed and officially handed over to local housing association Caredig.

Homebuilder Bellway is building 184 new homes at its Parc Mawr development off Brynrhos Crescent in Penllergaer.

They are divided into 147 properties for private sale and 37 affordable homes for rent or shared ownership.

In January, the first six affordable homes were finished and handed over to Swansea-based Caredig, a registered social landlord. The new homes are already occupied for rent or shared ownership by local people.

Sales Manager for Bellway Wales, Rhodri Davies, said: “Providing affordable properties to people who might not otherwise be able to buy one of these fantastic new-build homes is an extremely important aspect of the work we do at Bellway.

“It allows people to take their first steps on the housing ladder when otherwise that might have been out of their reach, and also brings high-quality, sustainable, new-build homes to the rental sector.

“We are looking forward to working with Caredig on delivering the other 31 affordable homes that we are building here. We take pride in every single home we build, and we can see that a thriving community will soon grow here at Parc Mawr.

“Construction is going well and there is a lot of interest in the homes we are selling on the open market. This development has a good variety of house styles and sizes, which means that it appeals to a range of buyers at different stages in their lives.

“Commuters are certainly noticing that it’s a good location from a transport point of view, close to Junction 47 of the M4 and just a 15-minute drive from Swansea. The fact that Penllergaer Primary School, which received an ‘excellent’ rating in all categories in its most recent Estyn inspection, is within walking distance is also proving a big draw for families.”

Stephen Yancek, Development Manager for Caredig, said: “In these current climates of financial hardship, now more than ever, it’s important to be providing affordable, quality homes. Caredig are delighted to be working in partnership with Bellway Homes to provide 37 affordable homes that have been finished to the highest standard. We are also pleased that this development is in a prime location that will build on the current thriving community.”

The homes for private sale at Parc Mawr include a a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom houses. There are two showhomes on the site – the three-bedroom Shipton and the four-bedroom Wenvoe.

A selection of three and four-bedroom houses are currently available, with prices ranging from £238,995 to £489,995.
