An outdoor learning centre is coming to Snowdonia

Active Learning Group (ALG), a specialist experiential education company that gives young people immersive shared experiences through activity-based learning, is delighted to announce its third acquisition, the Towers, and its new range of mountain-based activities and experiences for young people to enjoy.

The Towers will provide mountain trekking days, kayaking and climbing in the internationally recognised adventure sports playground of Snowdonia. To ensure the site is in keeping with the company’s highest of standards, a full, yet sympathetic, refurbishment is now underway with the aim of opening early next year. This joins Sealyham (ALG’s stunning coastal site, acquired last year) and Cuffley (a beautiful woodland-based outdoor centre in the heart of Hertfordshire) to become its latest Active Learning Centre. This provides a hat trick of mountain, coastal and woodland residential learning environments for young people to experience.

Active Learning Group’s senior team combines over three decades of quality indoor and outdoor education experience. It has built a portfolio of companies that offer young people a variety of life-enriching learning experiences outside of the classroom, to help develop resilience and confidence and promote wellbeing, so they are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century. This dedicated and ambitious team has recently attained the highest status (level four) from the Skills Builder Partnership and plans to grow, in size and offer, over the next few years.

Managing Director, Pat Milston FRGS, explains what it takes to be an Active Learning Centre:

“The Towers, like Cuffley and Sealyham, will offer transformational outdoor learning experiences and adventures for young people, engaging in all aspects afforded by one of the most stunning mountain ranges in the UK. In these wonderful environments, our core team of qualified instructors, education facilitators and management, will be delivering the same high level of learning, customer care and service our visitors have come to expect and deserve. Active Learning Centres, through our unique use of woodlands, coast and now mountains, are now able to offer a truly progressive programme of experiences, all with a common focus of developing character and Essential Skills and promoting wellbeing”.

Nigel Miller, CEO for Active Learning Group, added:

“We’re delighted that we have been able to secure the future for yet another stunning venue that deserves investment so that it can be preserved for many generations to come. We are passionate about making outdoor education as accessible to as many children as possible, and we’re excited to expand our provision. Our Active Learning Centres can now create a journey that takes young people to the enchantment of the woodlands, the charm of the coast and the wonders of the mountains. Whilst educational, these experiences are significant in building confidence, resilience and character along the way. We’re immensely proud of our team and our growing portfolio and look forward to seeing what other opportunities develop in the near future.”
