A busy drive for funding could result in countless new opportunities for children to learn how to sail in the spectacular Swansea Bay. Enthusiastic members of Mumbles Yacht Club have already raised around £8,000 in their aim to hit the target of £10,802. They’re now appealing for local people and organisations to help with the final push through Swansea Council fundraising platform Crowdfund Swansea. Their deadline is mid-August. Matthew Jones, who is a lecturer at the University of Florida (UF) in the USA, has learned Welsh and created a programme for UF law students to come and study and work in Cardiff for six weeks over the summer. Matthew worked closely with Cardiff University’s Law School, some of the city’s law firms, and the Welsh Government, to shape the programme, which is now about to enter its second year. A schoolgirl has set herself the challenge on walking up Pen y Fan for the Wales Air Ambulance in memory of her dad. Amelia Millett, from Pontypool, lost her dad Adam following a car accident, when she was aged four. In memory of him, she plans on hiking the highest peak in South Wales, which is situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park. This is Amelia’s first fundraiser for the Charity, and she has already smashed her fundraising target of £250. The 12-year-old has so far raised an incredible £460 for the all-Wales Charity.
