More than 470 people took part in a charity walk at Pontcanna Fields, Cardiff, at the weekend (Sunday 21 July) to raise vital funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Research UK. Last summer, citizen scientists in Wales spotted 63,237 butterflies and day-flying moths during the Big Butterfly Count. Today, wildlife conservation charity, Butterfly Conservation, is issuing a rallying cry to people in the region to help beat that this year. In 2023, people across Wales did 5,557 Big Butterfly Counts, with the Meadow Brown taking the top spot for species sightings. A father-of-two is taking on the Brecon Carreg CDF 10K to raise money for Kidney Wales after he helped save his daughter’s life by giving her one of his kidneys. A woman who was born prematurely at just 26-weeks is getting ready to run the Principality Building Society Cardiff Half Marathon in celebration of her life. Alyssia Matyear, now 29, also hopes that in sharing her story she can help provide hope for parents of premature babies.
