The first Welsh language daycare nursery has opened in Newport for children aged 2-5 years with funding provided by the Development Bank of Wales. Based in Rogerstone, Wibli Wobli Nursery is registered for up to 40 children per day and offers Welsh medium day care and holiday club places plus free Welsh Ti a Fi sessions on Saturdays. The Food-share and ‘Cwtch Café’ which run weekly out of the community centre, offers support to residents experiencing the effect of the current cost of living crisis. Monmouthshire Council’s cabinet this week (Wednesday 26th July, 2023) announced that consultation on the selection of potential sites for Gypsy and Traveller accommodation will be deferred to allow more consideration, following feedback about the shortlisted sites at last week’s People Scrutiny committee. Council-owned sites in Mitchel Troy and Manson Heights which were shortlisted for consultation have been deemed to be unsuitable for this use due to access and other issues, while shortlisted sites in Magor and Undy require more investigation to ascertain their suitability for any future development.
