Former Wales rugby international Shane Williams and top comedian, actor and writer Steve Speirs, joined keen golfers from across Wales on last Friday for Tŷ Hafan’s 25th anniversary Charity Golf Day sponsored by Mitie.

Twenty four teams played 18 holes at Cardiff’s Radyr Golf Club and raised £20,850 in the process, making Tŷ Hafan’s third annual golf day an undisputed hole-in-one success.

“It was an honour to host the Tŷ Hafan golf day at Radyr Golf Club,” said Shane Williams.

“Thank you Tŷ Hafan for making me very welcome and allowing me to be part of this amazing day. With everyone’s hard work and generosity we managed to raise over £20,000 which is incredible!!!”

James Harper of Principality Building Society, and one of the participants, said: “Tŷ Hafan is Principality Building Society’s official charity partner as voted for by colleagues.

“But you can’t do much more than help a charity that helps families in times of quite dire need.

“So I think the day has been all about bringing more support for Tŷ Hafan and raising awareness and using the power of golf to bring people together, which is exactly what Tŷ Hafan  does every day for families that need that help.”

Sorrel Mayo, Corporate Senior Fundraiser, for Tŷ Hafan, said: “I’m overwhelmed with the amount of support we had on Friday.

“This event has grown into a very popular date in the diaries of many of Tŷ Hafan’s corporate supporters and we couldn’t be more grateful for the generosity from all the businesses who took part and, of course, to our headline supporters Mitie, who I am looking forward to working with even more closely over the coming months.”

“Mitie were honoured to be headline sponsor for such a prestigious event in support of Tŷ Hafan’s 25th anniversary golf day,” said a spokesperson for Mitie.

“The funds raised are testament to all of the hard work of the Tŷ Hafan team and the ongoing support of so many companies pulling together for such a great cause.

“Mitie are looking forward to building on our relationship with Tŷ Hafan to help raise funds to assist them in their journey to support children and families across Wales.”

“The staff at Radyr Golf Club could not do enough to help make the day a success” added Sorrel Mayo.  “The course looked lovely, and the day finished with glorious sunshine.

“And we couldn’t be more grateful to Shane for hosting the day, it was a pleasure to work with him, and a big thank you too to Steve Speirs for entertaining everyone and doing a fantastic job with the auction.”
