The Welsh Government and Cornwall Council have signed an agreement to work closely together on shared areas of interest. First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford and Cornwall Council Leader Linda Taylor signed a collaboration agreement in Cardiff today, which sets out the five-year action plan. The Celtic Heritage Cornwall-Wales Collaboration Agreement will focus on four areas – sustainable housing, achieving net zero, thriving rural economies, and celebrating culture and language. Green-fingered pupils have helped raise more than £65,000 for cancer care in Swansea Bay by growing sunflowers – inspired by a teacher who lost her husband to the disease. Every year the youngsters at St Joseph’s in Clydach compete to grow the tallest sunflower, raising money through sponsorship which is donated to the South West Wales Cancer Centre at Singleton Hospital. An intergenerational sewing project to upcycle old clothes, was designed and carried out by Year 5 and 6 pupils from Ogmore Vale Primary School, following a series of lessons about how the future will be impacted by present day actions. 1.6 tonnes of coffee pods have been recycled from over 2,600 properties in Cardiff since April this year. The new scheme allows households to sign up to the scheme with Podback, so the council can collect coffee pods from residents’ homes at no cost to the taxpayer to continue to increase the city’s recycling rate.
