Half term in Wales is set to bring a mixed bag of weather, with blustery showers to start the week before brighter and crisper conditions arrive. Today will feel cold and changeable, with plenty of cloud, some sunny spells and occasional showers. Some of the showers could be heavy with hail, turning wintry over higher ground. A disqualified driver who fled from police despite being arrested weeks earlier for dangerous driving has been jailed. Thomas Williams, 38, of Cristionydd, Penycae, Wrexham admitted a string of driving offences including two counts of dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified. He also admitted possession of Class A and B drugs. At Mold Crown Court last week, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. A man from Swansea has been jailed after he was found guilty of the murder of his own brother. The body of 48-year-old Martin Steel was found at an address on Hill View Crescent, Clase, shortly after 10:30am on Saturday May 20 2023. 41-year-old Darren Steel, from Morriston, pleaded not guilty to Martin’s murder and manslaughter in February 2024. Steel was found guilty by a jury on February 12. A new hand painted mural has been unveiled in Cardiff City Centre, celebrating the everyday journeys that connect people across Wales and the Borders. Located on Quay Street, directly opposite the Principality Stadium, the artwork features the lyrics of “Gwlad! Gwlad!” from the Welsh National Anthem. The mural has been completed in time for Wales’ Six Nations home fixture against France, ready to welcome thousands of fans to the capital. Cardiff Council has issued a warning to residents after a fake website was found charging people to update their address for Council Tax. The council has made it clear that it never charges for this service and is urging people not to use unofficial websites. Residents can update their Council Tax details free of charge through the official Cardiff Council website. Lee Slocombe, 33,previously of Delhi Street, Swansea has been sent back to prison for six years for a £400,000 fraud against nine victims, following dangerous building work he carried out at properties in Cardiff, Bridgend and Swansea. The total loss to his victims was calculated at least £547,000, after considering the costs incurred to rectify the dangerous work he carried out. On 20th October 2025, Slocombe pleaded guilty to two charges of participating in a fraudulent business between March 2021 and May 2023. Education inspectorate Estyn has placed Ysgol Harri Tudur/Henry Tudor School in special measures. Pembrokeshire County Council acknowledges the findings of Estyn’s inspection of Ysgol Harri Tudur/Henry Tudor School, published following the December 2025 visit. The report identifies a number of serious concerns in relation to leadership, safeguarding, teaching quality, pupil progress, attendance and curriculum planning. Estyn has therefore judged that the school requires special measures. Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has officially opened two major new education facilities – Ysgol Afon Wen in Hawthorn and Pontyclun Primary School – marking the completion of significant investment delivered in partnership with the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme.
