South Wales Police have issued an urgent appeal for a Good Samaritan who helped a young woman in Mermaid Quay, Cardiff, on Saturday night to come forward. A man has been sentenced to 10 years, with an extension period of six years, after he was convicted of a rape and an attempt to rape. Yusuf Nur, aged 47, of Cardiff, pleaded guilty to the two offences on September 15, 2025 and has been sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court. The court heard how, on August 17, at around 5.20am, the 19-year-old victim flagged down officers on patrol and reported the rape that had just occurred on Kingsway, in the city centre. Working in partnership with Neath Port Talbot Community Voluntary Service, five local hubs have been identified to take part in the pilot.
