The former managing director of a train operating company whose wife died after a shock brain cancer diagnosis said there were no warning signs of the disease. Sam Edwards, 52, of Cowbridge was rushed to hospital after suffering a seizure out of the blue in October 2021. A scan at Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend showed a large inoperable lesion on her brain. Her widower, Julian Edwards, said: ”As a spectator, you can’t move quickly enough watching someone appear as if they are possessed, falling into bedroom furniture. The number of insolvency-related activities in Wales has reached its highest level this year, according to new research from R3, the insolvency and restructuring trade body. R3’s analysis of data provided by Creditsafe shows there were 76 cases of insolvency-related activity,  which includes liquidator appointments, administrator appointments and creditors’ meetings, in Wales in April – the highest number this year, and since November 2022’s total of 84. Insolvency-related activity numbers also rose month-on-month, with April’s figures 10.1% higher than March’s, and year-on-year, with April 2023’s figures 33.3% higher than April 2022’s. Principality Building Society has today been revealed as the new title partner of the Cardiff Half Marathon, which returns to the streets of the capital for its 20th anniversary celebrations on Sunday 1 October. RSPCA Cymru has launched an appeal for information after two gulls were found to have been shot with pellets in Barry. The incidents happened within a week of each other – prompting a call to the public to get in touch with any information to assist investigations. Pellets were found in both gulls who both were suffering with broken wings. Sadly due to the seriousness of their injuries they were put to sleep to prevent further suffering. Grants of up to £1,000 are now available to help local Swansea businesses bid for public sector or larger-scale contracts. Successful business applicants will be able to use the funding to help access training for the accreditation that’s needed to bid for work of this kind.
