Cymru Under-19 will continue preparations for their upcoming UEFA European U19 qualifying campaign with a friendly double-header against Scotland in March. The FAW Board has approved far reaching changes across its area associations which will lead to improved equality and diversity in governance, investment in grassroots football and increased sustainability. The recommendations of the independent Area Association Review were agreed by a vote in a full meeting of the board at the FAW Collier’s Park in Wrexham.  This builds upon the 80 recommendations, adopted by the FAW in 2021, from the ‘Sustainable Association For The Future’ report. Maesteg Sports Centre is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year with a £400,000 investment in new equipment and workout areas. Funded by Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC), Sport Wales and Halo Leisure, the upgrade includes a larger gym area with new cardio machines, a dedicated strength and conditioning space, a wellness zone, a new exercise studio and training/workshop spaces. A proposed land exchange at Maindy Park would be in the best interests of the Maindy Park Trust according to an in principle decision taken by Cardiff Council Cabinet, acting in its role as Trustee of the charity. The exchange is still subject to charity commission consent. Over 40 young musicians from across Pembrokeshire recently enjoyed a weekend residential trip to Cardiff as part of the Pembrokeshire Music Service String Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Band. The purpose of the weekend was to enjoy music making and, most importantly, to have fun! Saturday started with sessions with guest conductors, Christopher Vale (Wind Band) and Roger Clarkson (String Orchestra). Christopher is a professional bassoonist who performed with the Welsh National Opera for over 30 years while Roger is a former Director of Music with the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain. Welsh-medium education could be introduced at a south Powys primary school if a recommendation to Cabinet is approved, the county council has said. Powys County Council is proposing to move Ysgol y Cribarth in Abercraf along the language continuum by establishing a Welsh-medium stream at the school. The school is currently an English-medium school providing education for pupils aged 4 to 11. Since September 2021, Ysgol y Cribarth has operated a Welsh-medium Foundation Phase class on a pilot basis as part of a scheme that has been supported by the council.
