Leading insurance broker Aston Lark, a Howden company, is setting out its support for the Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity. The national firm, which has a new base in south Wales, has kickstarted its support of the charity with a £1000 donation. The Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity, established by the rugby legend of the same name, provides support for young people aged 15-35 who live in Wales, are receiving treatment for cancer and are struggling financially. RSPCA Cymru is calling for more to be done to crack down on an illegal procedure which mutilates dogs’ ears, as more maimed pups enter rescues in Wales. The RSPCA has reported today that 1,100 dogs are reported to have undergone a cruel and unnecessary procedure of having their ears cropped in the last three years – with 79 of these coming from Wales. The animal welfare charity has joined forces with Llanharan charity Hope Rescue – who currently have eight dogs with cropped ears in their care – on its Mutilated for Money campaign. Glyncoed Community Group recently received a donation from Persimmon Homes as part of their Nature Day. The event saw local children engage in bug hunting, bird spotting and bird box building, led by the Group’s Vice-Chair Lyn Turner and attended by local county councillor Chris Smith. The bird boxes will be put up on tress that run next to the new cycle path between the Persimmon site and the existing Glyncoed community. The last time Ceredigion was the feature county of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society in 2010, the famous artist Aneurin Jones created a piece of art for the event. Prints of the painting were sold to raise funds for the feature county and were deemed a huge success. A man has been charged following an attack on two police officers in Pontypridd on Monday evening. Officers stopped to help a man who looked like he was in distress, however as they approached, he proceeded to then douse them in petrol and then violently threatened to set them alight. He was subsequently arrested following a taser discharge. We are appealing for witnesses to the incident, including a couple in a white SUV who stopped to provide assistance. A 44-year-old man has been sent to prison for 40 months for transferring criminal property contrary to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. Bilal Tozsu, 44, from Margate in Kent, helped organised crime groups to launder money obtained through criminal activities. He travelled throughout the UK collecting more than £4,000,000 on behalf of these groups. In March 2023 Tozsu was stopped in his car on the M4 at Magor by officers from Tarian, the Regional Organised Crime Unit for southern Wales (ROCU), working in partnership with Gwent Police.
