As the war in Ukraine continues, Aberystwyth University has been building on the link established with Odesa National Economic University (ONEU) as part of a UK wide twinning initiative to support students and academic staff in the country. A new Welsh support booklet to benefit non-Welsh speaking parents and guardians in the county was launched recently. The Welsh Language Support Team in Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion have worked together to create a booklet that will help non-Welsh parents and guardians as their child begins their education in the county’s primary schools. Work has been completed to upgrade the traffic lights and provide additional footway improvements at Llantrisant Road in Llantwit Fardre (near Hill Drive), as part of a Safe Routes in Communities scheme supported by Welsh Government. Contractor Centregreat Ltd has recently completed the final resurfacing for the work, which has introduced a Puffin crossing at this location – a more efficient crossing system than was previously in place. Consultation on plans to introduce a Welsh-medium stream at a south Powys primary school have begun, the county council has said. Powys County Council is proposing to move Ysgol y Cribarth in Abercraf along the language continuum by establishing a Welsh-medium stream at the school. The school is currently an English-medium school providing education for pupils aged 4 to 11. The proposed change would see a Welsh-medium stream introduced at Ysgol y Cribarth from September 2023, operating alongside the school’s English-medium stream.
