Fencing and temporary footpath closures are being set up around a development site in the upper Afan valley as work gets underway on a new £250m adventure holiday resort. Located on 132 hectares near the border between Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend County Borough, a joint letter from the local authorities for both areas and developers Wildfox Resorts is being issued to residents living in communities near the site to advise them that the temporary measures are necessary for maintaining public safety. Dogs Trust, the nation’s largest dog welfare charity, is warning dog owners that “twenty is plenty” when it comes to exercising dogs this summer.  With the arrival of warmer weather, Dogs Trust has issued guidance that exercising dogs in temperatures as mild as 21 degrees centigrade can be problematic for dogs, particularly brachycephalic, or “flat-faced”, breeds such as English Bulldogs, Pugs and French Bulldogs.  In fact, according to recent research from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University, English Bulldogs are fourteen times more likely to suffer heat-related illness compared to Labrador Retrievers. A family-run bespoke furnishing company has acquired a hotel based in Wales thanks to a six-figure funding package from HSBC UK, amid growing demand for the company’s upholstered furniture. Lyn Morgan Furnishings, a family-owned business founded in 1999 by Lyndon and Rachel Morgan, has moved from rented premises based in South Wales to the Elan Valley, where the business has purchased the Elan Valley Hotel thanks to the assistance of HSBC UK. The former managing director of a train operating company whose wife died after a shock brain cancer diagnosis said there were no warning signs of the disease. Sam Edwards, 52, of Cowbridge was rushed to hospital after suffering a seizure out of the blue in October 2021. A scan at Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend showed a large inoperable lesion on her brain. Her widower, Julian Edwards, said: ”As a spectator, you can’t move quickly enough watching someone appear as if they are possessed, falling into bedroom furniture. It was one of the most frightening experiences I have witnessed.”…

The number of insolvency-related activities in Wales has reached its highest level this year, according to new research from R3, the insolvency and restructuring trade body. R3’s analysis of data provided by Creditsafe shows there were 76 cases of insolvency-related activity,  which includes liquidator appointments, administrator appointments and creditors’ meetings, in Wales in April – the highest number this year, and since November 2022’s total of 84. Insolvency-related activity numbers also rose month-on-month, with April’s figures 10.1% higher than March’s, and year-on-year, with April 2023’s figures 33.3% higher than April 2022’s. Principality Building Society has today been revealed as the new title partner of the Cardiff Half Marathon, which returns to the streets of the capital for its 20th anniversary celebrations on Sunday 1 October. The race – now Wales’ largest mass participation event – has grown to become one of Europe’s largest and best-known half marathons, attracting a field of more than 27,500 registered participants. Following significant investment, SF Parks is to launch the much-anticipated high ropes course at its White House Leisure Park in Towyn on Saturday (May 27). RSPCA Cymru has launched an appeal for information after two gulls were found to have been shot with pellets in Barry. The incidents happened within a week of each other – prompting a call to the public to get in touch with any information to assist investigations. Pellets were found in both gulls who both were suffering with broken wings. Sadly due to the seriousness of their injuries they were put to sleep to prevent further suffering. One incident took place in the west of the town on 18 May and another incident at Charlotte Place on 21 May. RSPCA…

The two boys who died in a road traffic collision in Ely on Monday have been named as best friends Harvey Evans, 15, and Kyrees Sullivan, 16. Harvey’s family has released the following tribute: “Our hearts are truly broken by the sudden death of Harvey, our much-loved son, grandson, brother, nephew, friend, and boyfriend. “He lived life to the full, he had a big heart and deep down he truly cared.
