Residents in Swansea can grab a bargain for Christmas at the city’s main Recycling Centre. Swansea Council’s successful ‘Tip Treasures’ shop – the onsite store at Llansamlet Recycling Centre, is brimming with household items donated by residents. Everything from furniture, bicycles, televisions, ornaments, clothing, CDs and DVDs can be purchased at the shop. The Council developed the shop several years ago to divert items from landfill and enable them to go to families that need them. Pembrokeshire County Council has been deeply saddened to learn of the deaths of two long-serving and respected senior former Councillors. Maurice Hughes and John Allen-Mirehouse served as Leader and Deputy Leader of Pembrokeshire County Council respectively. Maurice represented Merlins Bridge as Pembrokeshire County Councillor from 1995 – 2004. A former Chairman of the Highways Committee, he went on to serve as Leader of the Council from May 1999 to May 2004. Caerphilly County Borough Council has set out the key timeline to undertake an independent road safety study of the B4251, known locally as ‘Wyllie bends’. The council’s Cabinet recently agreed to re-evaluate existing safety measures at the site and also agreed to work closely with the family of Laurie Jones who died following an accident on the road in 2019. Vital information about the health of pregnant women and their unborn babies will be shared much faster with a new all-Wales digital system for maternity services in Wales, being created by a £7m investment from the Welsh Government. Mothers-to-be will be able to access their records as well as receiving timely messages to help ensure a healthy pregnancy.
