A man has paid a heavy price for employing an unknown person to remove waste for him without taking reasonable steps to ensure the person was an authorised waste carrier which is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. At Swansea Magistrates’ Court, David Wayne John, 61, of Brookdale Street, Neath, has been ordered to pay a total of £858.52 after black bags and household waste were found on land at Derifach Lane, Glynneath earlier this year. The Vintage Kitchen recipe book has been launched in time for Christmas, packed full of traditional family recipes and food ideas, stories and ‘sustainable swaps.’ Supported by the Council and Local Food Partnership, the Llantrisant and District 50+ Older People’s Forum has been working closely with the students at Tonyrefail Community School. The Vintage Kitchen recipe book was created with family recipes and stories that accompany these recipes were shared by the forum members. The learners at Tonyrefail Community School took forward this idea, developing sustainable swaps for each recipe and creating and designing the artwork for the recipe book.…
The new development of 20 modern business units in Robertstown has been handed over to the Council after construction work was completed – and more than half of the units are currently under offer from potential tenants. The significant development in the Cynon Valley has brought a large area of unused land back into use, creating 20 industrial buildings that range from traditional to hybrid units, and vary in size from 1,000 to 1,700 sq ft. The generosity of Monmouthshire’s residents has led to this year’s Christmas Wishes campaign being able to provide 300 vulnerable children and young people with gifts and vouchers in time for Christmas. In addition to the presents that were kindly donated, more than £5,200 was raised by residents and businesses across the county over the past month. Members of the public who visit a north Powys canal have an opportunity to give their views on the canal before a major restoration project begins. As part of the Montgomery Canal Restoration Project, three surveys have been launched to find out the current views of people who visit Montgomery Canal. The surveys are being carried out by Glandŵr Cymru (the Canal & River Trust in Wales) and Powys County Council, who are delivering the ambitious project to restore and revitalise parts of the Montgomery Canal. Attending a hearing at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates Court, a Llandrindod Wells resident has been found guilty of a Section 4 Public Order offence and given a substantial fine, after assaulting a Powys County Council Civil Enforcement Officer. On being issued with a penalty charge notice for a parking violation on Temple Street, Llandrindod Wells on the 30 June, the offender violently pushed the notice into the Civil Enforcement officer’s chest. The Minister for Health and Social Services, Eluned Morgan, has urged people to take extra care and only call 999 for life-threatening or serious emergencies during the ambulance strikes.
