The Interim Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales, Gosia Siwonia, has confirmed the presence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1 in poultry at a site in Anglesey. This is the second confirmed case of avian influenza on Anglesey this month. A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone have been declared around the infected premises, to limit the risk of disease spread. Menai Bridge has closed for essential maintenance work following safety recommendations from structural engineers. Structural engineers have recommended that Menai Bridge should close to all traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists to allow essential maintenance work to take place. South Wales Police is investigating the death of a 45-year-old woman from the Plasmarl area. Police were called to an address in Idris Terrace at 6am this morning (Saturday 22nd October). A 35-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder. He is currently being held at Swansea Central Police Station. It is believed those involved are known to each other.
