The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and Cwmni Egino have announced they will work together on proposals for the siting of a new nuclear development at Trawsfynydd, north Wales. With the agreement of BEIS, the two organisations are working towards a collaboration agreement aimed at progressing plans which will ultimately support UK Government’s Energy Security Strategy. BHF Cymru has thanked the community of Whitchurch RFC in Cardiff, who came together to commemorate the life of a much-loved family-man, friend, and member of the rugby fraternity, by planning a fundraising event in his memory with evening of entertainment and a celebrity auction hosed by Wales and Lions rugby legend Steve Fenwick. National road race champion Pfeiffer Georgi heads a line-up of Britain’s most talented riders heading to the eighth edition of the Women’s Tour, Britain’s leading UCI Women’s WorldTour event which will be visiting Mid Wales next month. Georgi, who won her national title at Lincoln in October, finished eighth overall on her debut in the Women’s Tour last year and went close to winning stage two in Walsall with a late attack. Pembrokeshire County Show, the largest county agricultural show in Wales, is going ahead this year, over two days, on 17 and 18 August. This year’s event, the first open to the public since 2019, will be a celebration of rural life in the county. The last full-scale show, which would normally attract around 100,000 visitors and competitors, was held in August 2019 followed by a virtual event in 2020 and a scaled down version in 2021 for animals and members only. The Scarlets are working in partnership with their local NHS Charity to support the Wish Fund, a new campaign which will create magical memories for children and young people living with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families. The Wish Fund will raise funds for NHS Paediatric Palliative Care services in the Hywel Dda University Health Board area. The Healthspan Porthcawl 10K, a major running event that debuted in 2019 will return this summer after a two-year absence. It is expected to attract thousands of runners from across the UK. The event will return to the seaside town on Sunday 3 July, following the same closed-road route which was devised by race director and double Olympic marathon runner Steve Brace who grew up in nearby Kenfig Hill. One hundred trees are to be planted in Bute Park, creating a new orchard and replacing 50 trees damaged by vandals in September last year. The planting follows a community-led campaign set up in the wake of the vandalism, which caused thousands of pounds worth of damage. A fundraiser, set up by Melissa Boothman, owner of The Secret Garden Café in Bute Park, has raised £5,000 so far. Cllr Mike Day succeeds Councillor Mary Jones, to become Lord Mayor for 2022/23 and his deputy will be Cllr Graham Thomas.
