Staff and learners at Rhigos Primary School are delighted with the news and have been invited to attend the Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards in London on June 21 to collect their special award and the £1,000 prize money for the school’s Breakfast Club. Continued delays to the introduction of EU import checks are a risk to biosecurity and put Welsh farmers at a disadvantage, Rural Affairs and North Wales Minister Lesley Griffiths has warned. In a letter to the UK Government the Rural Affairs Minister has outlined the Welsh Government’s concerns on the impact of the further delay to import checks, which were due to begin in July. The Minister said the Welsh Housing Quality Standard 2023 (WHQS 2023) would ‘build on the excellent achievements of its predecessor’ – the standard introduced in 2002. First Minister Mark Drakeford and Plaid Cymru Leader Adam Price have today set out a way forward for Senedd reform. They want Senedd reform to be implemented in time for the next election in 2026, even if some of the changes are introduced on an interim basis. They have set out a joint position statement in a letter to Huw Irranca-Davies, the chair of the cross-party Special Purpose Committee on Senedd Reform. The Welsh Government’s Counsel General has said the biggest change under a devolved justice system would be a reduced prison population. He described short prison sentences as “counterproductive” as he emphasised the benefits of alternatives to custody, and said the excessive money spent on prisons could be reinvested in areas such as treatment programmes.
