A new study exploring the secretive lives of feral and free-roaming cats in Wales could shed light on wildcats’ return to the country. Scientists at Aberystwyth University, Queen’s University Belfast, and Vincent Wildlife Trust are investigating the role that elusive free-roaming cats may play in the transmission of diseases to humans and other animals. The study will inform ongoing work by Vincent Wildlife Trust to investigate the feasibility of restoring the European wildcat to areas it used to inhabit in Wales. People over-60 now have access to 125 free or discounted sports and fitness sessions at leisure centres, outdoor spaces and community venues across Wales. The 60-plus Active Leisure Scheme has delivered more than 10,750 sessions since 2021, with 154,500 attendances recorded. Activities range from pickleball and climbing to swimming, yoga, tai chi, walking groups and strength training classes. Last year alone, more than 5,550 people took part in the programme, with 125 different types of exercise available. Police have taken action following reports of anti social behaviour in Neath Port Talbot. South Wales Police confirmed that a Section 35 dispersal notice was put in place last night after multiple incidents were reported in and around Ffordd Amazon, Crymlyn Burrows. Officers from the Roads Policing Unit attended the area, where two vehicles were seized. Two drivers have also been reported for dangerous driving. Glamorgan County Cricket Club said it was deeply saddened by the passing of Hugh Morris, describing him as a hugely respected and much admired figure whose contribution to cricket in England and Wales will be fondly remembered. According to South Wales Police, a 43 year old man was assaulted by a group of unknown men on the evening of Monday, December 8. The incident took place at Swansea Bus Station. Officers in Port Talbot have been given extra powers to deal with anyone involved anti-social behaviour. A 48-hour dispersal order, which is granted under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014, is in place from 6.30pm yesterday (December 28) until 6.30pm on Tuesday, December 30 in the Port Talbot area, more specifically Green Park Street.
