Tredegar Comprehensive School has been praised by Estyn for creating a caring, safe, and inclusive learning environment that inspires pupils and raises aspirations across the school community.

Amongst the many highlights, the report noted:

    • A caring, safe and inclusive school community
    • Staff and pupils who show a strong commitment to their school and community
    • Teachers that establish calm, well-managed environments and apply strong subject knowledge
    • A strong commitment to promoting good attendance
    • A strong commitment to supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs
    • Calm, purposeful leadership with a clear focus on raising aspirations and outcomes
    • Experienced and enthusiastic governors

    Headteacher Charlotte Leaves said:

“We are absolutely delighted with our Estyn Report, which is a true testament to the relentless hard work and dedication of our staff, governors, pupils and families. Our mantra of ‘Working Together for Success’ has never been more evident.

“Furthermore, we are thrilled that Estyn have shone a spotlight on our work around pupil leadership, recognising this as a notable strength.

Whilst we are exceptionally proud of the findings and will celebrate our collective success, we absolutely will not rest on our laurels!

“We know there is more for us to do and we will relentlessly challenge ourselves to become even better and secure even greater success.”

Councillor Sue Edmunds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families said:

“Congratulations to Tredegar Comprehensive School on this wonderful report. We’re working in close partnership with our schools on our priorities to build strong foundations for lifelong learning and development, and to empower young people to lead informed, independent, and healthy lives. This report clearly demonstrates the school’s commitment to these aims – well done everyone.”

The report also recognised the school’s dedication to its core values and the local community, with well-being provisions that offer valuable emotional support to pupils.

The school’s learning resource base (LRB), established two years ago, was recognised as a nurturing and inclusive provision that effectively supports pupils with autism, helping them develop confidence, communication, and social skills.

The report outlined three key recommendations to further enhance student outcomes.
