A new Post Office branch is set to open in Bettws over three years after it was closed. Opening on 24 January 2022, the new branch is located in a new site on Tyn-y-Bettws Close, just half a mile from Y Wern where the old branch closed in November 2018. Tintern’s Grade II Listed Wireworks bridge, which crosses from Monmouthshire into Gloucestershire, was closed to vehicles in August 2021 following the results of a structural assessment undertaken earlier in the year. Pedestrians and cyclist have still been able to use the bridge. RCT Council has provided a progress update on its upcoming work to replace the Brook Street footbridge at Ystrad Rhondda Railway Station – with initial work on site scheduled to begin during the first week of January 2022. All works to demolish the former Dan y Mynydd Care Home buildings in Porth are now complete, to enable the potential future redevelopment of the site into a 60-bed Extra Care facility by Linc Cymru (Linc) and the Council. A fungal-like pathogen known to affect a variety of tree species has been discovered on the Welsh Government Woodland Estate in Dyfi Forest, Gwynedd. Phytophthora pluvialis can affect a variety of tree species, including western hemlock, Douglas fir and several pine species.
