Residents are being urged to attend organised fireworks displays rather than light up their own this Bonfire Night season. Swansea Council is supporting police, fire and other emergency services to encourage people not to let off fireworks in their gardens or in the street. Instead they’re calling on people to enjoy themselves responsibly by following the Firework Code, keeping pets indoors and being mindful of neighbours. The council is organising a free fireworks display in Swansea Bay on November 12 so that residents don’t have to arrange their own. Electric vehicle charging points are soon being installed in Swansea’s emerging new £135m Copr Bay phase one district as a drive to make the scheme as eco-friendly as possible gathers more pace. Planting has also begun for the green wall and 1.1-acre coastal park forming part of the development. Other features of Copr Bay include the use of low-voltage LED lighting throughout the scheme. This includes the LED lights around the outside of the Swansea Arena development, which will be powered by photovoltaic cells on the attraction’s roof. Taf Valley Coaches has informed Pembrokeshire County Council that the 352 bus service between Ryeland’s Lane, Kilgetty and Tenby is to be temporarily withdrawn. The last day of operation will be this Saturday, 6thNovember. The service is operated commercially by Taf Valley Coaches and the operator has cited a driver shortage as the reason for the service being withdrawn. Notices are being displayed on the buses used on the 352 service to inform existing service users. A woman who was born just months after the outbreak of World War One has celebrated her 107th birthday. Ivy Skeate has been a resident of Hillside Residential Home in Goodwick since 2013 and celebrated her birthday on 1st November. Mrs Skeate enjoyed cake and balloons at what were low key but enjoyable celebrations due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions Mrs Skeate was born in Southwark, south London, and as an infant her policeman grandfather patrolled the streets of south London giving residents the all-clear following zeppelin raids with shrill blasts of his whistle. The £120K grant from the Welsh Government’s ultra-low emissions transformation fund is enabling the installation of the new charging points in Beaufort St. Car Park in Crickhowell, Oxford Road Car Park in Hay-on-Wye, Bowling Green Lane Car Park in Knighton, Dark Lane Car Park in Rhayader and Heol Eglwys Car Park in Ystradgynlais. Monmouthshire County Council is planning an Active Travel route – a cycle and pedestrian-friendly link – connecting Monmouth’s Monnow Street with the Overmonnow area. This will offer cyclists and walkers improved access to the town’s main shopping street as well as providing a thoroughfare towards local schools and the leisure centre. The proposed route will run along Monnow Street from Agincourt Square and make use of the ancient fortified river bridge.
