Due to a national shortage of drivers, Bridgend County Borough Council has warned it is experiencing some difficulties with home-to-school transport. Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Environmental Health team is issuing some general advice to residents, following confirmation of potentially harmful blue-green algae in Pen y Fan Pond. The algae produces toxins which can be harmful to both humans and animals. Residents are advised to ensure pets, particularly dogs, do not enter the water of the Pond – should pets come in contact with the water, owners are advised to thoroughly wash the animal with clean water and seek precautionary advice from a qualified vet. Over 80,000 people have so far visited the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, in 2021 – making this the second busiest year at the much-loved facility since it reopened in 2015, despite the public health restrictions which have remained in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.
