This Sunday is due to see the return of the award winning Admiral Swansea Bay 10k. The 40th anniversary staging of the annual race starts at 11am from the St Helen’s sports ground and organisers are urging visitors and motorists to be prepared for road closures on the day. Bridgend County Borough Council has supported Ogmore Community Council in transforming the site of a disused coal washery in the Ogmore Valley into a haven for nature and wildlife. Several grants were successfully applied for by the community council and the local authority’s Rural Development Team, Reach, to develop the Ogmore Washeries site into an area that would benefit the local community. Reach first funded an appraisal for the Washeries site that identified potential work and funding sources. Bridgend County Borough Council is in the early stages of developing plans that could see an all-new Welsh-medium seedling school established in the Porthcawl area. Cabinet members have agreed to submit an expression of interest on developing the facility as part of the next phase of Welsh Government’s capital grant scheme for Welsh-medium education. Members also agreed to explore options for adding the seedling school to existing plans that aim to create a new Welsh-medium childcare facility within Porthcawl. Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet has today (15th September) approved an investment of £130,000 to progress proposed regeneration projects in Risca and Bargoed. An investment of £30,000 was approved to carry out a feasibility study on a brownfield site to the rear of Commercial Street in Risca town centre. The study will consider options to develop the site into an ambitious mixed-use development. Cabinet members also approved £100,000 from the Regeneration Project Board Development Fund to invest into deal with the issue of dilapidated, empty and underutilised properties within Bargoed Town Centre. The Deputy Minister for Climate Change, Lee Waters MS, has today announced the Chair and Panel that will be carrying out the Welsh Government’s Roads Review and confirmed the road schemes that will be considered as part of the review. Health Minister Eluned Morgan has announced an additional £500k to improve community access to defibrillators and boost out of hospital cardiac arrest survival rates. The money will go towards enabling the likes of community buildings and sports grounds to access a defibrillator. A patient’s chance of surviving an out of hospital cardiac arrest decreases by an estimated 10 per cent with every passing minute. By increasing the availability of them in community settings it is hoped to improve the survival rates of those suffering a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital.
