Corris Railway Society is to run more weekend trains during August but a Model Railway Exhibition planned for Y Plas, Machynlleth has been cancelled due to ongoing uncertainty about Covid guidance. The society decided that calling off the exhibition, planned for August 28 and 29, was the safest option because of the risk and likelihood of people grouping around layouts and at trade stands. However, extra steam trains will operate from Corris Station during the month, allowing visitors to enjoy a relaxed view of the beautiful Dulas Valley. The service has received the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award which celebrates organisations that employ and support those who serve, both veterans and their families. On Saturday (17 July), Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) launched a brand new Mobile Cardiology Unit at Llyn Brenig. The first of its kind in Wales, the trailer will be used to promote heart education in rural areas and give CPR training in community settings, such as shopping centres, visitor hotspots and schools. A new project in the uplands of South Wales aiming to restore a historic peatland landscape and help people enjoy their local outdoor space has been awarded £1.56m by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. A Closure Order has been granted on a property owned by Caerphilly County Borough Council in the Pontlottyn area, to tackle persistent anti-social behaviour and criminal activity. Officers from the Council’s Tenancy Enforcement Section worked in partnership with Gwent Police and local residents to make the application to Court for the Closure Order. A three-month Closure Order was granted at Newport Magistrates Court on Thursday 15th July 2021 and will remain in force until 14th October 2021. RCT Council is reminding residents of the upcoming work in Abercynon which requires the B4275 at Ynysmeurig Bridge to close – with temporary local bus arrangements also coming into effect when the scheme starts on Wednesday. During June, the Council gave advanced notice of the work, which requires a road closure of the main road and a significant diversion route for motorists and bus users. RCT Council has now completed all work to deliver streetlighting and footway improvements throughout Ynysangharad War Memorial Park in Pontypridd, using significant Valleys Regional Park funding. Works have progressed throughout 2021 to deliver the £1.199m investment in the much-loved Pontypridd park – using £1.185m from Welsh Government via the Valleys Regional Park, and a £14,000 contribution from the Council. The funding package has enabled the Council to deliver a full refurbishment of all the main footways across the park, as well as the smaller paths. Close to £1 million of funding for a project that will see a new urban forest created across Cardiff has been secured by Cardiff Council. The ‘Coed Caerdydd’ (Cardiff Forest) project, a major part of the council’s One Planet Cardiff response to the climate emergency, has secured more than £753,000 of funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.
