Cardiff-based start-up Donald’s Pies is set to increase its production capacity tenfold following the opening of a new production kitchen on Penarth Road. Founded just 18 months ago by 31-year-old Gareth Owens, the company – which specialises in grab-and-go coffee and handheld pies – has generated almost a quarter of a million pounds in revenue in its first year of trading. The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has hailed the passage of the Animal Welfare (Import of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Bill into law today as a huge win for animal welfare, as well as public health. Introduced as a Private Members’ Bill earlier this year by vet and MP Danny Chambers with support from BVA, this legislation will introduce crucial measures to clamp down on puppy smuggling and ban the import of dogs and cats with illegal mutilations like cropped ears or declawing. South Wales Police are appealing for information to help locate 32 year old Elliot Spear, who has been reported missing. Elliot, from Bryncethin, was last seen at around 8.30pm on Friday November 28 and concern is growing for his welfare. Two men have been handed significant prison sentences after they were involved in a Swansea robbery. 38-year-old Ceri Gibson, of no fixed abode, and 36-year-old Christopher Palmer, from Clase, Swansea, approached a 43-year-old man who was unknown to them on Page Lane. Twenty four illegal e-bikes and e-scooters have been taken off the road thanks to another joint operation with Cardiff Council. This takes the total number seized to more than two hundred since the summer. Transport for Wales has taken another major step towards completing the electrification of the South Wales Valley lines, as the overhead wires across the Rhymney railway line are switched on. This major step in the electrification of the South Wales Metro network follows the completion of engineering work on the 25km stretch between Caerphilly and Rhymney.
