Smokers are being encouraged to quit smoking for the new year ahead of new smoke-free laws being introduced in Wales. From 1 March, Wales’ ban on smoking in hospital grounds, children’s playgrounds and school grounds, as well as outdoor day-care and child-minding settings, will be introduced. Anyone caught breaking the law could face a £100 fine. It is hoped preventing smoking on hospital sites will promote healthier care environments and support smokers using hospital services to quit. Plans are in place to minimise any possible disruption at the port of Holyhead following the end of the EU Transition period overnight. Police in Cardiff are appealing for information following an attempted robbery and an assault which occurred on two boys in the Canton area of Cardiff last night (Wednesday, 30 December, 2020). At approximately 7.30pm, two boys, aged 14 and 12, were approached by a group of approximately ten males at the junction of Wells Street and Rolls Street. The staggering amount of waste generated at Christmas can be finally revealed, with a total of 302,913 tonnes of waste being dumped this week alone across the UK, as bins are filled to the brim. “Even with a slightly toned-down Christmas this year, we all know how full the bins get after Christmas – it’s now clear the huge environmental impact all this waste has.
