Pioneering Sri-Lankan restaurant group The Coconut Tree will introduce three new, plant-based dishes to their menu to celebrate Veganuary. Available for a limited time only (from 2nd January until 13th February 2020), the new dishes add to the existing 15 plant-based options available on the menu, which is naturally abundant in vegan tropical cuisine. Thousands of gifts, donated by generous St David’s Cardiff shoppers, were provided to Children’s charities across the city this week as part of the centre’s annual Toy Appeal. Running until 23 December, the Toy Appeal is supporting more than 20 incredible charities across South Wales, and almost 3,500 gifts have already been donated in the first week alone. Every toy donated helps to spread festive cheer to children and families across South Wales. USW’s Legal Advice Clinic was recognised at the LawWorks Annual Pro Bono Awards, which were held in London. Swansea University have become the first university in Wales to open a zero waste shop. Located on its Singleton Park campus, Root Zero is run by the Students’ Union and offers both students and staff a unique and sustainable shopping experience. The shop follows a bring your own container concept, which helps to reduce packaging and food waste and stocks a choice of eco-lifestyle and sustainable products such as wholefoods, pulses, pasta, chocolate, coffee, fruit, detergents and hand wash. A new online platform designed to tackle the gap in support for the families of those suffering from cancer has launched. ‘CancerPal’ offers guidance and insight into the practicalities of caring for loved ones, as well as providing hard-to-source products and support boxes that help alleviate symptoms of the illness and its treatments. Eventually, its founder Jo Riley hopes to develop the platform into a community, where friends and families can share experiences, advice and support. The head of a criminal gang which sold crack cocaine and heroin across Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil has been jailed. Yousef Woolcock, 36, from Pendine Close, Barry, was jailed for 17-and-a-half years at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday, 11 December, 2019. Kevin Skinner, 37, of Wyndham Street, Barry, described as a runner in the operation, appeared alongside him and was jailed for five-and-a-half-years.
