Construction work has begun on 107,000 sq ft of Grade A offices at John Street, one of Cardiff city centre’s few remaining prime office development sites. Independent development company JR Smart, which is speculatively developing the John Street site, has already delivered and let 370,000 sq ft of offices at the adjacent Capital Quarter. The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is to receive £350K over 3.5 years as part of a pan-European project bringing together over twenty years’ research into food and its impact upon health and wellbeing. The Food-Cloud project, funded through the EU’s Horizon 2020 project, comprises 36 partners including research institutes, universities, SMEs and large companies across the European Union working in the medical and food sectors. Celebrations were in full swing at HC-One’s Trafalgar Park care home in Treharris, Caerphilly as Resident Ellen was thrown a special 100th birthday party. Born in Ystrad Mynach on 27th September 1919, Ellen Marie Hellings served as a wren in the Women’s Royal Naval Service during World War 2 before becoming a lunch lady at her local school. Ellen married her childhood sweetheart Basil, with whom she had one daughter, two grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren with. In her spare time, the centenarian enjoyed a variety of different hobbies, including knitting, reading, going to the chapel and shopping.…
An annual rugby tournament is helping staff at a Swansea hospital raise awareness of a form of heart disease. The proceeds from the third annual Decky Memorial Touch Rugby tournament, held at Loughor RFC, has raised nearly £4,000 for the inherited cardiac condition service in Morriston Hospital. The tournament was set up in memory of former Loughor player Richard Thomas, who was just 29-years-old when he died of cardiomyopathy – a disease that affects heart muscle tissue – at Singleton Hospital in June 2017. South Wales Police has launched a murder investigation after an incident in Llys Graig Y Wion, Pontypridd at about 8.10am yesterday morning. A 38-year-old woman died as a result of injuries sustained and a 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder. There has been a significant police presence, including armed officers, at several scenes in the area during the day and we would like to thank local residents for their cooperation.
