SCHOOLCHILDREN from across north east Wales hit the high notes with a top US opera soprano at a one-day singing workshop. Cosy Club, the newest addition to Cardiff Bay’s food and drink scene, has raised over £1,100 for older people’s support charity, Independent Age, in its opening month. Cosy Club Mermaid Quay opened its doors in June, and for the first month, funds were raised from every coffee and burger sold to donate to the organisation. Independent Age provide free information and advice for older people and their families on care and support, money and benefits and health and mobility, along with friendship services to relieve loneliness. Transport for Wales has announced the creation of 60 new jobs as they continue with their £5 billion investment programme to transform the transport sector throughout their Wales and Borders network. Staff at Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) have taken part in a successful drive to reduce the chances of patients with limited mobility developing pressure ulcers. Now they have been nominated for an NHS Wales Award. Pressure ulcers – sometimes misleadingly known as bed sores – are often preventable, but can cause patients unnecessary discomfort, and can even endanger life if they become infected, sometimes leading to claims of negligence. Climate protesters have blocked a key city centre road in Cardiff, causing disruption for commuters and travellers. Member of the Extinction Rebellion group have parked a green boat in the middle of the street, adjacent to Cardiff Castle. The police have since closed roads between Queen Street and Westgate Street.
