A Wales rugby star has visited a Cardiff school to handover 25 bags of sports kit donated to a charity that supports adults and young people in Wales through sport. Gareth Anscombe, fly-half for Wales and Cardiff Blues, hosted a training session for pupils at Cantonian High School in Fairwater and handed over 100 kilograms of donated sports kit – roughly the same weight as fellow Wales player, Hadleigh Parkes – to School of Hard Knocks (SOHK), a charity that uses sport to help disadvantaged communities in Wales. Entrepreneurs from across Pembrokeshire recently gathered at the Twr y Felin Hotel in St David’s for the first Pembrokeshire Enterprise Network event of 2019. Hannah Blythyn, Assembly Member for Delyn, has lent her support to efforts to make Flint a Town of Sanctuary. The AM attended an event at the RiverDee Centre in Flint to mark the launch of the Town of Sanctuary initiative to foster a welcoming place for refugees and asylum seekers. It is the second town in Delyn to take part in the programme after an initial launch in Mold last summer. Llanidloes residents and visitors can now recycle while exploring the shops and streets of the ancient market town. ‘Sending a Message in a Bottle’ founder, Phil Stallard, with help from the Waste Awareness Team at Powys County Council, has found a use for redundant recycling bins which had been put into storage. Spar Llanidloes agreed to trial the bins outside its store and, since early November, passers-by have been able to deposit their bottles and cans ready to be recycled. South Wales Police have charged two men with offences under the Modern Slavery Act and assault. Anthony Howard Baker, 48, and Harvey Baker, 19, were arrested on Wednesday evening and Friday morning respectively, on suspicion of holding a person in slavery or servitude. The men, both from Jersey Marine, Neath, have since been charged with the offences and will appear before Swansea Magistrates’ Court today (Saturday, February 2nd). A 20-year-old man is currently in hospital and is being supported by officers and specialist services.

To celebrate the release of The Lego Movie 2, The Red Dragon Centre has a fun, free workshop planned for Saturday 9th February. A YOUNG woman from Carmarthenshire who found out she had bowel cancer after trying to give blood is backing Cancer Research UK’s campaign for World Cancer Day. Following successful treatment, 28-year-old Kelly Jordan is now urging everyone to join her by wearing the charity’s Unity Band on February 4. The campaign is close to Kelly’s heart as her father was also successfully treated for bowel cancer when he was 29. Kelly didn’t realise anything was wrong until she tried giving blood at Carmarthenshire Library in February 2017. She said: “I was told I couldn’t give blood as my iron levels…

THE brightest young creative minds from across Wales are being given a chance to boost their skills and employment prospects through a new development scheme. LSN Diffusion (LSN), a high-tech metallurgical business has secured a further £1.25m loan from the Development Bank of Wales to support their ambitious growth plans. LSN’s cutting-edge technology is used to manufacture high alloy atomised powders used in high-tech industrial applications including 3D printing and specialised uses in the defence and other industrial sectors. The latest loan will help the business increase production capacity by 80% over the next three years by expanding manufacturing facilities in Cilyrychen, Ammanford.
