Local community housing projects and charities are being urged to put their case forward as Nationwide, the world’s largest building society, makes £500,000 available to help make a difference to communities across the region. The Society is inviting applications for grants of between £10,000 and £50,000 for housing projects that will support the most vulnerable in local communities. Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest accolade a UK voluntary organisation can receive. The award, often described as ‘the MBE for volunteer groups’, was announced by Buckingham Palace in a special edition of The London Gazette published on Sunday. A 22-year-old from Caerphilly who has worked in the costumes department for a hit Netflix series has opened her own clothing company in a bid to tackle ‘fast fashion’. The man who died following an incident in a lane near Cathays Railway Station has been named as 18-year-old Fahad Mohamed Nur. Officers were called to a lane adjacent to the railway line which links Park Place to Corbett Road at approximately 00:24hrs on Sunday, June 2 following reports that a man had been stabbed. Mr Nur, who is from Cardiff, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he died from his injuries. His family is being supported by specially trained officers.
