Business leaders from across South Wales have given up their beds and sleeping bags to spend a night under the stars at Cardiff Castle as part of CEO Sleepout Cardiff, a national initiative raising vital funds to tackle homelessness and poverty. The event brought together professionals, entrepreneurs and charity leaders in a show of solidarity with those facing homelessness, all while raising money for organisations working on the front line of the crisis. A 28-year-old man handed himself in to a police station on May 4 and was subsequently arrested in connection with the assault of a 61-year-old man which happened at the Church Inn, Old St Mellons, Cardiff, on Saturday, May 3. He has since been released on police bail. The 61-year-old victim of the assault remains in hospital where his condition is described as critical but stable. Today, National Trust Cymru has announced the creation of a National Register of Welsh Apple Varieties that designates 29 varieties of Welsh apples to help safeguard Wales’ rich apple heritage. The register is the result of three years of collaborative working and workshops, bringing together apple and orchard enthusiasts including Welsh author and apple identification expert Carwyn Graves, the National Botanic Gardens of Wales and the Marcher Apple Network . A man from Swansea has been jailed after he pleaded guilty to nine sexual offences against one victim, beginning when the victim was a child. His victim disclosed to a family member that 58-year-old Stephen Hindley had led a campaign of sexual assaults against them, between the ages of nine and 22. Offences were alleged to have taken place in Mayhill, Plasmarl and Manselton between the mid-Nineties and the mid-2000s. A 29-year-old man has been jailed for strangling his former partner. Sam Trommelen of Berwyn Street, Llangynog, Oswestry, attacked the victim while the pair were on holiday in Aberdyfi, Gwynedd in October last year. Following an altercation in their room after Trommelen accused the victim of cheating, he put his arm around her neck, restricting her from breathing. He eventually let go and she fled the property, but Trommelen followed and continued the altercation with the victim in the street.
