STUDENTS are laying the foundations for a future in construction on a groundbreaking new suite of apprenticeship programmes. The first cohort of learners have taken their places on Wales’s first fully funded Construction Degree Apprenticeships. The students will spend two years at Coleg Cambria’s Bersham Road site in Wrexham before completing a final two years at Wrexham University. A charity golf day organised by Bellway Wales has raised more than £12,000 for Cancer Research UK. A total of 24 teams of four participated in what has become an annual event, named the Hugh Thomas Memorial Golf Day in memory of a much-loved Bellway employee who died from cancer in 2022. Ian Price, former Director of the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) Wales, has returned to leading recruitment agency Acorn by Synergie, 19 years after last being an employee with them. An opticians in Prestatyn has raised £2,057 for local causes by hosting a charity fundraiser to mark its 20-year anniversary. Since it opened in 2004, Specsavers Prestatyn has provided high-quality eye care for optical and contact lens customers, growing from just six employees and two test rooms to four test rooms and a team of 23 dedicated members of staff. Ashley Davies, 30, of Forge Street, Pentre was given a mandatory life sentence for the murder of Connal Evans, with the minimum term he must serve being set at 26 years before he is eligible for parole. He appeared at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court having been found guilty of murder and possession of a bladed article following a ten-day trial which finished on October 11. The playground in Cae Ddôl, Ruthin, reopened to the public following works to replace the old equipment as part of an Accessible Play Area Provision project. Denbighshire County Council’s Accessible Play Area Provision received £300,000 from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity fund to deliver accessible play provision within the County. Working with KOMPAN UK Ltd, the Council consulted with local residents and members to create a design that would be inclusive, accessible and exciting.
