Amanuele Mebrahtu, of Canton, Cardiff, was identified following an extensive CCTV trawl that tracked him on foot and within his vehicle, travelling from the city centre to Cathays. An app on his phone, which he used for his taxi services, also provided a live second-by-second location that matched perfectly against the suspect shown on CCTV. A man has been jailed after entering a home and stealing a car, following a South Wales Police investigation. Callum Tannetta, aged 25, from Adamsdown pleaded guilty to burglary and theft of a motor vehicle when he first appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday October 17 and was sentenced at the same court this week (November 12) to three years in prison. The investigation found that on February 25, 2025, Tannetta entered the home and took two games consoles, a computer and stole a car. The Council is seeking Cabinet approval to begin a 12-week public consultation – starting on December 1st – to introduce a Visitor Levy for overnight stays in Cardiff.The report to Cabinet follows the passing of new Welsh legislation in September 2025 that received Royal Assent, allowing councils across Wales to charge a small fee to overnight visitors starting from April 2027. The money raised, estimated at £3.5 million each year, would be paid to the Welsh Revenue Authority, who in turn pay the levy to local authorities. A renewed focus on cutting the number of empty residential properties across Newport was agreed by cabinet members this week. They approved a five-year strategy which sets out some key methods of bringing empty properties back to life. A treasured piece of local sporting history has been reunited with the family of the late Alun Pask, a former Wales and British and Irish Lions rugby player. The framed British and Irish Lions jersey, once displayed at Pontllanfraith Comprehensive School, was presented on stage to Alun’s son, Richard Pask, by former Welsh international Steve Fenwick during the recent Sport Caerphilly Sport Awards.
