People are being invited to have their say on updated plans to transform Swansea’s Civic Centre into a major new waterfront destination. Swansea Council and Urban Splash are asking residents to view the latest proposals before the project moves to its next stage. Drivers are being advised to plan ahead as overnight work is set to take place at Bassaleg roundabout in Newport. The work will be carried out from 8pm on Friday 3 July until 5am on Saturday morning. During the works, all entrances and exits to the roundabout will remain open. However, central sections of the roundabout will be closed while the work is carried out. Drivers using Cardiff Airport’s terminal drop off zone will now pay more after updated charges came into effect from 1 July 2026. The airport has increased the cost of using its dedicated terminal drop off and pick up area to £4.50 for up to 10 minutes. The charge then increases by £4.50 for every additional 10 minutes. Previously, the cost was £3 for the first 10 minutes and an additional £3 per 10 minutes thereafter. Bron Afon Community Housing has started work on building 30 brand new, energy-efficient, affordable apartments in Newport. The development at Kelvedon Street is the organisation’s first scheme in Newport. It is also their second scheme outside of Torfaen, the first being Brynhoward Terrace in Oakdale, Caerphilly. The building will provide 22 one bedroomed and 8 two bedroomed apartments and associated communal areas.  Each apartment will have an A rated EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) as a result of modern heating systems that are energy saving and more economical to run. This will help to improve the health and wellbeing of the residents and reduce the impact of fuel poverty. The Animal Law Foundation, supported by 42 organisations and legal experts, has written to the newly formed Welsh Government calling on it to confirm that boiling decapod crustaceans, including lobsters and crabs, alive is illegal under existing Welsh law, and to commit to publishing official guidance. The letter follows a landmark victory in England, where the UK government formally acknowledged in its Animal Welfare Strategy for England, published in December 2025, that live boiling is incompatible with the Welfare of Animals at the Time of Killing Regulations 2015.
