Neath Port Talbot has once again found itself in the national television spotlight, with several locations across the county featuring prominently in new BBC psychological thriller The Rapture.
The six-part drama stars Ruth Madeley, Iwan Rheon, Ruth Jones and India Amarteifio and is based on the bestselling novel by Liz Jensen.
Several familiar Neath Port Talbot locations were used to bring the story to life, including the historic ruins and landscapes of Margam Country Park, which provide a dramatic backdrop for scenes throughout the series.
Port Talbot town centre also features prominently, doubling as the fictional seaside town of Porth Hen, while viewers may also recognise Aberavon Beach.
The series is available to watch on BBC iPlayer, with its finale airing on BBC One on Sunday, August 9.
Executive Producer of The Rapture, Rebecca Durbin said: “Having grown up in South Wales it felt very special to be in Neath Port Talbot to film The Rapture. The locations the area offered us were so wide ranging in terms of scale and visual interest.
“Port Talbot Town Centre worked excellently as our fictional seaside town of Porth Hen, the sweeping costal vistas and the Forge Tavern, where our episode one finale takes place. The people of South Wales could not have been more welcoming and accommodating and the crew in Wales are some of the UK’s finest!”
The production joins a growing list of major television and film projects which have chosen Neath Port Talbot as a filming location.
Margam Country Park has previously appeared in productions including Doctor Who, His Dark Materials and Death Valley.
Michael Sheen also selected Port Talbot as the backdrop when directing television drama The Way, further building the county borough’s reputation as a versatile location for television and film production.
A new Neath Port Talbot Film Office website is also set to launch soon in response to growing demand from the industry.
The website will act as a one-stop shop for industry enquiries and production needs and will include a comprehensive interactive library showcasing filming locations across the area.
