Popular Swansea attraction Blackpill Lido has been forced to close for several days following a technical issue which has led to damage to parts of the pool flooring.

Swansea Council confirmed on Tuesday morning that the lido had been drained after issues were discovered, with a later update revealing that sections of the flooring had come away in some areas.

In an update issued at 1.30pm on Tuesday, the council said repair work would now take place over the coming days before the pool can be refilled.

The council said it is aiming to complete the repairs as quickly as possible, but warned that refilling the pool will take several days once the work has been finished.

Earlier in the day, Swansea Council confirmed the lido would be closed for “a number of days” due to the technical issue and apologised to visitors for the inconvenience caused.

The closure comes during a spell of exceptionally warm weather across Wales, with temperatures soaring above 30°C in some areas this week.

Blackpill Lido is one of Swansea’s most popular family attractions during the warmer months, attracting thousands of visitors each year to the seafront site.
