    Blackwood school named best in the region at education awards 2023

    Libanus Primary, near Blackwood has been named as the best in the region – picking up the top prize of School of the Year at the 2023 South Wales Schools and Education Awards.

    Nicola Williams, Headteacher said: “Children’s wellbeing is at the centre of everything we do, and we have built our community, curriculum, and opportunity for pupil voice around the needs of our children.

    “We are constantly looking for opportunities to improve the experiences that our children have through their learning, visits and visitors and enrichment activities.”

    “A dedicated team of staff encourages them to flourish and reach their full potential by providing a consistent and high standard of education and support.”

    Cllr Carol Andrews said “Headteacher Nicola Williams ensures her team understands the vision for the school and trusts them to make the right decisions for pupils.

    “This has allowed Libanus to evolve, progress and become an inclusive and positive learning environment that provides fantastic opportunities.

    Congratulations also go to Bedwas High School, St Martin’s School and Ysgol Bro Sannan for their awards.

    • Secondary School Teacher of the Year – Becca Griffiths St Martin’s School
    • Teaching Assistant of the Year – Kirsty Silcox – Ysgol Bro Sannan
    • Support Worker of the Year – Carolyn Hickling – Libanus Primary School
    • Class of the Year  – 8A – Bedwas High School
    • Overall School of the Year Winner – Libanus Primary School
