True crime series Dark Land: Hunting the Killers is back with a brand-new series telling the stories of some of Wales’ most shocking murders.
Throughout the six-part series, a team will reinvestigate two of the country’s most horrific cold cases, from their incident room in Swansea, as well as examining how four historic murders were solved.
The team of investigators is led by former Chief Constable of Dyfed-Powys Police, Jackie Roberts, and former head of South Wales Cold Case Unit, DCI Paul Bethell. In the first episode they revisit the unsolved murder of four-year-old Joyce Cox.
Paul says: “All murders are tragedies, but the murder of a child is particularly horrifying and very sadly, this is one of those cases.”
Just after the outbreak of World War II, Joyce was walking home from school in the Cardiff suburb of Whitchurch. Despite the short journey, she never made it. The following day, her body was discovered on a nearby railway line. She had been sexually assaulted and murdered but her killer has never been caught.
Armed with a diverse array of skills and specialities in all areas of forensic criminology, Jackie and her expert team hope to use modern policing techniques to identify a prime suspect. A new lead emerges when the last person to see Joyce alive, other than her killer, breaks an 84-year silence.
Jackie says: “This is probably one of the last opportunities now to identify Joyce’s killer.”
