Caegarw Primary School of Mountain Ash is due to receive a significant upgrade to its playground climbing equipment. The school has received a generous gesture from local business, T Samuel Estate agents.

Under the Local Management of Schools, it is a school’s Governing Body that is responsible for playground equipment. The school’s initial saving plan for the refurbishment of the playground estimated a 5-year goal, with planned fundraising activities such as an Easter Extravaganza and Choir Concert helping to raise over £5,000 towards the fundraising target.

Purchasing a rundown local property, T Samuel Estate Agents, with the help of community partners, including trade people made up of parents and carers connected to the school, intend to renovate, and sell a property with all proceedings going towards the school’s fundraising project. The project aims to raise an additional £20,000 towards the school’s fundraising goal while bringing the community together.

Headteacher of Caegarw Primary School, Mr Huw Griffiths, said: “This is a shining example of what makes our community so special, when it comes to pulling together and supporting one another. We are humbled and excited by this kind gesture from T Samuel Estate Agents alongside the rehoming of surplus play equipment, we are overwhelmed! It is an exciting opportunity for our pupils and extended school community. Several generations of children from our towns and villages will benefit from this project.”

Managing Director of T Samuel Estate Agents, Chris Roberts, added: “To be able to bring the community together and contribute to such an incredible cause underlines our commitment to the local community in Mountain Ash. We hope this will be the first of many similar projects and have been overwhelmed by the kind offers of support from other local businesses and parents/carers to support the project.”

Parent Governor, Gavin Allen, provided further thanks: “The playground is about much more than letting off steam during lunchtime, it’s a space where children can enjoy time with their friends, make memories, as well as gain valuable exercise and development. Speeding up the introduction of the climbing frame will absolutely have a positive impact on the young children and families in our local community.”

The fundraising campaign has received significant support from local businesses and the parents/carers who have volunteered to help renovate the property and drive the project’s success. Their involvement highlights the strong ties between the school and the wider community.
