Tracy Bird, Cardiff and Vale College’s Career Ready Manager, has been chosen by Career Ready as the Santander Employability Champion 2018 for Wales, the West and Midlands.

The award recognises Tracy’s commitment to improving the employment prospects of the College’s learners.

    Tracy said:

“I feel very honoured to have come this far and won this award as there are more than 300 Career Ready centres in this country. However, while I feel hugely privileged, this is more about my students and watching them grow into successful young people who will be our country’s strong, confident workforce of the future.

“It is all about supporting students’ dreams and helping all of our learners to become successful in the world of work. Watching the transformation of a student from the beginning of the academic year to their graduation is the best job in the world!”

Career Ready is a UK-wide charity linking employers with schools and colleges to open up the world of work to young people aged 16-19. Learners at CAVC can apply to join the programme to run alongside their course and receive mentoring, masterclasses, workplace visits and internships.

“For us here at Cardiff and Vale College this award means we can celebrate the hard work and achievements of our Career Ready students and help more young people to develop their skills, confidence and experience to kick start a successful future,” Tracy said.
