Every March, The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre proudly celebrates International Women’s Day with an array of free performances and engaging sessions, all with a focus on celebrating women’s achievements and promoting gender equality. International Women’s Day 2024 is taking place at The Riverfront on 9th March 2024, and this year’s theme is #InspireInclusion.

From 10am to 4pm, The Riverfront will host its annual International Women’s Day event, promising a day filled with free performances, insight panel discussions, stalls, engaging workshops, live music and craft activity all led by inspiring women.

The day’s activities include creative workshops led by talented artists Heidi Mehta and Najiya Atkar, henna, hair braiding, and massage workshops by the Newport Sudanese Community, presentations focusing on women’s stories, and live music performances by talented female artists.

Attendees can also look forward to a literacy panel featuring female writers, wellness sessions, and engaging movement activities. Plus, an open rehearsal of ‘My Normal F***ing Sex Life’ by Tori Lyons, a hilarious, moving and urgent show about the normal and not-so-normal sexual experiences of female and female-presenting people that contribute to attitudes towards sex and shame. After the rehearsal, there will be a Q&A with Tori, the creative team and members of New Pathways, a rape crisis and sexual abuse support service.

The event is open to all, with no booking required. Stay updated on event details and the timetable through their website and social media channels.

“Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #InspireInclusion,” shared organisers of International Women’s Day.

Head of Theatre at The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, Gemma Durham says, “This International Women’s Day, we’re excited to host and celebrate the achievements and contributions of women. It’s an opportunity for people of Newport to come together to recognise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women locally and all over the world, as well as the work that is still to be done. We are so lucky to be joined by amazing individuals and community groups for a diverse, educational and fun day of music, dance, food and enjoyment.”

Join them at The Riverfront on 9th March as they celebrate International Women’s Day and #InspireInclusion!
